The Countryside Experience
The principal work of the charity is to provide free holidays to disadvantaged children, aiming to enable them to take charge of their own lives by teaching them to take responsibility for their own actions and resist disruptive peer pressure. The children who come to Ewe & You are recommended by schools and other agencies in the West Midlands area. All the schools with whom we work have confirmed the benefit to individual children. |

| This year has seen the consolidation and growth of various initiatives in the work of the charity and ended with the news of significant funds pledged towards the building of new accommodation Wigwams. | Countryside Experience - the popularity of this scheme with the participating schools continues to grow, with ‘waiting lists' of children hoping for a place. Another full programme of ‘reunions' was run with children attending from each year of the scheme - one of the original children to visit had just left school and was about to take up a place at Pershore Horticultural College, a tremendous achievement. We continue to have about 70% of the children maintaining contact and attending these reunions. The programme of team-building games, work with the animals and other activities continues to be developed and a grant to install a purpose built ‘adventure challenge' play area has been received from The British Humane Society and work should be completed before the start of next season. The minibus has been maintained free of charge by a local garage and continues to give valuable service.
| | | Volunteers - many of last year's volunteers returned to help with the reunions as well as the new groups in the summer. We had a steady stream of volunteers through the Millenniun Volunteers organisation and Worcester schools sixth-forms helping on both day and night ‘shifts' over the summer. Another volunteer continues to manage the mailing for the Countryside Experience visits and the general mailings. | |
